How do you authorise Shopify in Morningscore?

Are you experiencing that Morningscore is unable to complete a health scan of your Shopify store?


The reason for this is an update from Shopify, which has tightened their automatic security settings and introduced a stricter bot protection. This means Shopify’s systems automatically block external tools - including Morningscore’s crawler - from accessing your site.


What does this mean for you?

As long as Shopify’s bot protection is active, Morningscore cannot:

  • Scan your online store for SEO errors and technical issues.
  • Update your health score and data in your dashboard.

Shopify allows you to create an authorization signature (crawler signature), which grants Morningscore permission to crawl your site.


Step-by-step guide: Authorize Morningscore in Shopify

Follow the guide below to properly connect Morningscore and Shopify:


Step 1: Open the guide in Morningscore

In Morningscore under "Health", you will see a message at the top of the platform. Click on "Allow crawler access".


  1. Click on ‘Connect Search Console’
  2. Log in to Google using the account you’ve set up Search Console for your website(s) - you can link multiple accounts, but only one at a time.
  3. You will now need to agree to allow Morningscore to access your data in Search Console - (you can always revoke access at any time, either via Morningscore or Google).
  4. It will load, and your Google Search Console will then be added to Morningscore. (It may take a few minutes for it to appear here.)



Step 3: Create a signature in Shopify

  1. Open your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Online Store -> Preferences.

  1. Scroll down to the Crawler access section and click the Create signature button.
  2. Name the signature "Morningscore Bot" and click Create signature.



Step 4: Copy the values from Shopify

Once the signature is created in Shopify, you will see a table under Crawler access.

  • Copy the value next to Signature (by clicking the copy icon).
  • Copy the value next to Signature-Input.





Step 5: Paste the values into Morningscore

  1. Return to the pop-up window in Morningscore and click Continue.
  2. Paste your copied Signature and Signature Input into the corresponding fields.
  3. Click Save.



Once you have saved the fields, Morningscore is authorized in your Shopify store, and you can immediately run a new full health scan!



Note: You can run a scan right after clicking save. However, if an active crawl is currently in progress, it must be stopped first and then restarted.
